Day 2 - Roncesvalles to Zubiri

Sunrise over the Pyrenees

A lot of toilet-flushing through the night meant I was awake by 4am. By 5:45am we gave up on sleep and started packing. At 6am, the dorm lights flicked on accompanied by the gentle blare of hymns. Shoes on, out the door by 6:30am. Still dark, but like yesterday: clear skies, no breeze.

We walked through peaceful woodland as the sun rose -beautiful light and mountain views through the trees. Reached Zubiri at 11:40am and stopped at the first albergue we saw. Called ahead from the doorstep, and luckily they had space. Doors opened at midday and we checked in, showered, washed clothes, cooked steak and potatoes for lunch. Then did very little for the rest of the day.
