Day Forty Two - Volcanoes

With the sun shining we headed north from Pucon towards the small town of Melipeuco from where we were heading to the Sollipulli volcano. I was there last year with a friend and we didn't manage to get to the start of the trail due to lack of a four wheel drive vehicle, after some enquiries we had been told the road was now passable. As it turned out, the rain the night before has softened the gravel road and after failing to even get up the first incline let alone the switchbacks and next 8kms of uphill gravel road we abandoned all hope and decided to leave this trip for next time...

Continuing north we entered the Conguillio National Park home of the Llaima volcano (which I climbed last year) and drove through the park, enjoyed the snow capped volcano views and the vast lava fields. Out of the park and onto Suizandina a beautiful hostel in the village of Malalcahuello, the weather was good so we decided to camp at the hostel.
