Trip details
Day 3: Chamonix, rest day to shopping day!
Woke up to a beautiful mountain view from bed, after I was the one who got up first to open the curtains.
Gaby then realised she had left her base layer behind which was great timing as we had planned a rest day in Chamonix, it would become a shopping day... best holiday ever...at least for Gaby. Chamonix has plenty of outdoor shops, mostly at the higher end of the price range. I suggested a more budget-friendly replacement rather than spending a days food budget on a Patagonia one.
We withdrew a large amount of cash from the ATM and then spent some time breaking it into smaller notes in preparation for trail purchases where card payments are not always reliable due to limited signal.
Late morning pastries by the river in Chamonix.
Bus back to Les Houches. Cooked steaks which we enjoyed on the balcony. Later we dropped a bag of surplus kit at a storage locker, mainly my gear for the second leg of the trip in the Pyrenees.
Stopped at the supermarket on the way back for ice cream.
Spent the rest of the afternoon sorting kit and repacking rucksacks for the next day. Early night planned for an early start to avoid the heat later in the day.
