We woke to a cold, windy, rainy start — the kind of weather that makes you double-check whether you’ve accidentally booked a winter holiday by mistake. Visibility was poor, but the pine trees still looked great as we began the initial ascent out of the village.
At the top, the clouds cleared almost instantly. They turned out to be very localised around Cruz de Tejeda, disappearing the moment we climbed above them. For a brief stretch we had beautiful sunshine, right up until we descended below roughly 1500 metres and walked straight back into the next layer of cloud.
A welcome café appeared, which improved the morning considerably. After that we had some road walking and a few uninteresting sections that mostly involved trying not to think about how damp everything was.
We stopped for lunch, then continued past a handful of properties before reaching a place offering Camino information and stamps.
On arrival in Gáldar the church was closed, so we stopped at a café for lunch, then checked into our apartment. We made immediate use of the washing machine — easily the day’s greatest luxury — before heading to the tourist information office next to the church, where we received our Camino certificates.
